Gansey has trouble telling his family at first so him being him just sends them a letter. He’s been over seas for a while now and hasn’t really called or texted amd then they just get this really long, like four page, letter. It’s full of definitions and research of how and why he wants to transition. Also attached to the letter is a small not he will be going to Henrietta for a while. That’s all the contact they get for a solid month, mean while Gansey is off panicking about that letter the whole time. Then his sister, just shows?? Up?? Out of nowhere?? And finds him and just, “hey brother, why haven’t you visited, also who cut your hait it’s shit let me fix it” and that’s really the only time they talk about it other than when he goes to Aglionby. His parents take it better than he thought they would (but that’s because of the research and they just want him to be happy).
So he gets to Aglionby and meets this tall child with this wild hair (Ronan) and they mesh so well, Ronan helps him look/feel more masculine and tells off everyone/anyone that tries to make him feel bad for who he is.
Then they meet this Adam, he is obviously half way through trying to transition quietly, because he’s terrified of his father but doesn’t want to live a lie. How he got into Aglionby, they can never really be sure. They think it might have been Adam’s mom but they really don’t know, Adam never gives a straight answer. They help him transition more, proper binders, cutting his hair, all the stuff they can. Ronan even talks about faking a signature so Adam can get hrt but Adam talks him out of it, it’s not too pryority. Ronan shows up at his house with him after he cuts all his hair off the first time, protection and moral support, Gansey is there too because he’s mother hen and is worried about his two boys. Adam’s dad is Shit, about everything. But he knows enough that with his son’s friends there it will go south fast, like jail bad, so he keeps quiet. At first, Adam never talks about it later, unless it’s obvious (Gansey and Ronan know when it’s not obvious too but they decide to let Adam talk about, pressure can be scary).
So this merry band of misfits finds eachother and they keep eachother safe. Gansey and Adam bond over being trans, Ronan helps with transphobes (Adam’s certified douche canoe of a “father”) because he is Ronan “Take-no-shit” Lynch. And of course their gang is finally completed (so they think) when a nonbinary child joins them, yeah he’s a little cold at first but Noah is sweet as can be and really makes the place shine. Seriously where does this kid get all the freaking glitter!? They don’t know much about Noah for a long time but what they do know is that this kid has better style than all of them (Not that Ronan would ever tell Noah that) and that Noah really prefers no pronous, just their name, or they/them when pronouns are easier.
